Plot summary
Leah Waddell works as an on-air weather girl for a local television station in Conway, although she aspires to do real forecasting work for or with the station's chief meteorologist Chris, who believes she needs more experience before he will permit her to transition into that area. In addition to signs showing her that her dating life has stalled, Leah makes the threefold decision to: move out of her parents' house; stop dating for a year; and focus that year on her professional life, which includes completing her degree in meteorology and honing her knowledge on the science of weather forecasting. As soon as she makes that decision, men seem to be coming out of the woodwork, they not there before, wanting to date her. She ends up moving next door to Mark Crawford, who too is embarking on his own one year plan: having grown up on and just moved from his father's dairy farm, he, having gotten a consulting job with a dairy, is giving city life a try, his heart up to this point of his life on the farm. Leah and Mark end up making a connection as he tries to get her brain partly out of the science to take cues from nature to forecast weather, as he has done all his life. Especially as she has this one year no dating plan, their relationship, unspoken but known between the two, is purely platonic. As romantic unspoken feelings start to develop on both sides, they may miss the opportunity to make that connection fully as among other things Mark has to make the decision if he will return back to the farm at the end of the year, and as a former girlfriend, Rochelle Crosby, reenters his life.

great movie
Not much love in this forecast
Hopes were really not high for 'Love in the Forecast'. While credit is due for having a different setting and trying to do something different from the usual formula, the premise just didn't appeal to me. It just sounded so silly and more complicated than it needed to be. Watched it anyway, despite not liking the premise or being a fan of Cindy Busby, due to Hallmark film completest sake (wanting to extend my horizons beyond their Christmas films) and because Christopher Russell can be good in the right role.
'Love in the Forecast' does absolutely nothing to change my mind about the premise, if anything it epitomised pretty much everything that was not appealing about it when executing it. It also to me, and quite a number of others it seems, is not a good film with not many redeeming features. It has a few but the flaws are so many and so major they can be forgotten easily. Hallmark did do some above average films in 2020, but despite trying to do something different 'Love in the Forecast' managed to be one of the worst of the batch.
Am going to begin with mentioning the few good things. It is quite nice to look at, particularly the scenery. Hallmark doesn't always fare well when it comes to authenticity but the scenery more often than not is lovely to watch and the scenery here is no exception. There are moments of pleasantness in the music and it's not as intrusive as it tends to be with Hallmark.
Russell also fares well and gives the only halfway decent performance in the film, he is likeable and has an easy, non-stiff presence that never becomes too introverted.
Busby however is pretty terrible as one of Hallmark's most overused character cliches. There are times where she is very hammy and then there are other times where she goes through the motions, all while never looking comfortable. She and Russell have absolutely no chemistry and look very distant together. The supporting cast do not stand out, other than a miscast Jennifer Copping who agreed is much too young for her role and she overdoes it. Other than Russell's, there was nothing appealing or interesting about any of the characters and nobody really grows in development.
This is another Hallmark film seen recently where the story is truly weak. Not just paper thin and dull, with some very uneventful patches, but it is also truly ridiculous and much sillier than the premise sounds. Not to mention the jaw-droppingly far-fetched and over-complicated weather and metereology facts, where it was very clear that no research had been done. The script has a few cute moments, but is mostly awkward, cheesy and never below surface level in depth. The direction is pretty pedestrian, the final act is contrived and mostly the music is unmemorable.
Concluding, very weak. 3/10.

Don't waste your time because this movie is really slow
She says "it's rain in the forecast", he says "it's sun"
I say who cares because this made for TV film is certainly no fun
These two lovebirds play cat and mouse throughout the movie
If I can suggest you should be a lot more choosy
I forecast a 5 out of 10 IMDB rating, no more, no less
This film will never win any contest
