Actually it is not really a dish. It may be a beverage though and therefor it is not a surprise it is served cold. Analogies aside, this movie is quite something with a lot of action, but also a lot of story to back the whole thing up. More than your regular action B-movie that is.
Now all that is nicely packed in flashbacks and "current" happenings. And the editing and the way it is pieced together works in favor of the movie and the suspense. You don't have to be a fan of Scott Adkins, but this movie surely does show his range.

Avengement is a dish ...
SCOTT ADKINS SHOULD BE THE PUNISHER
Scott Adkins is the absolute best of the DTV action genre stars, he puts out extremely violent & bone-crunching action Thriller's that often feel like the old skool raw action films of the past such as the types of flicks Van Damme & Steven Seagal would've made back in like 1991 or something. Adkins is the New Van Damme of today, i don't know why he isn't a huge action star? I mean he should be as big a star as Jason Statham but for some reason isn't there? There's definitely something old skool about Adkins & i love it, he's the greatest fighter out there in films today & nearly every film I've seen him in he's Awesome!!!
I absolutely love his Ninja films & his Debt Collector films & many more, he's genuinely a good actor & an incredible fighter on screen & has a Cool charm.
Here in this Very violent & gritty British Thriller our Adkins plays Cain, a guy who is down on his luck & gets mixed up with his older Gangsta brother that gets him put in the toughest prison in England & here he becomes a warrior as he is hunted every day by other Criminals who want him dead & we get some outstanding fight scenes that are truly savage & extremely brutal & Adkins is superb as he becomes a hardened warrior.
This is a revenge Thriller & once Cain escapes his prison life he sets out on a violent quest of revenge against the one's who set him up & put a price on his head in prison, his own big brother!!! Adkins basically becomes The Punisher & it's Awesome!!! Adkins really gives it his all here with his extraordinary performance & shows he's as good as any of the other big British actors such as Tom Hardy & Jason Statham. The fights are Amazing to watch & full of blood splatter & broken bones, Adkins is a killing machine here but it's his situation that made him that way & we root for him to kill them all. This has some of the greatest fight sequences I've seen in a long time & especially for a DTV film, they're Amazing.
Scott Adkins makes quality films & puts his everything into them so it doesn't matter at all that alot of his films are "Cheap" low-budget flicks because he makes better stuff more often than what's at the cinema with mega-budgets!!!
I so wish someone would cast him in a new Punisher movie as he's perfect.
Avengement is a quality revenge Thriller that's full of violent action & some very funny humour scattered throughout & a great performance from the underrated Adkins.
The greatest Bar Fight ever is featured in this kick-ass brutal Action crime drama.
Possibly Adkins' best film yet
I'll admit to being a massive fan of Scott Adkins, a martial arts star nowadays keeping the straight-to-video action genre alive in much the same way as Van Damme and Seagal did in the 1990s. His best films are those teaming him with Isaac Florentine or Jesse V. Johnston, and this one's by the latter. I loved their SAVAGE DOG and enjoyed TRIPLE THREAT recently, so I was pumped for this one. I'm pleased to say that I found it their most enjoyable team-up yet, an action packed story of gritty revenge with a simple but always-unfolding story keeping it moving along at speed.
Adkins gets a chance to play something else for a change - a Cockney hard-man with a psychotic streak. He has a ball with the part. The rest is a familiar working-class setting from Guy Ritchie's early films, enlivened by the presence of many familiar faces in the cast, including Craig Fairbrass, a funny Thomas Turgoose and Johnston lucky charm Louis Mandylor. I thought the way that the story is told in flashback was cleverly done, and the endless fight scenes are realistic and expertly staged. Things build to a hectic melee which satisfies every viewer expectation, and you'll be delighted at what they achieve on a low budget when plenty of higher-budget films invariably miss the mark.
