I don't think this is anything special but the 3.5 score must be hating. The premise is a little bit out there with the face cream, but the cast does a good job. Solid B horror movie score.
You got Frank from Donnie Darko in two roles, C Thomas Howell, and freaking Ray Wise. Thats 80s, 90s, and 00 nostalgia wrapped in one.
Think of this as B monster movie comedy cheese Dorian Gray with an LA/Hollywood setting, and theme of being shameless for fame.
The beast-looking monster is created when someone puts on the shaman drug dealer's face cream and is changed because they are being controlled by an ancient parasite. I bumped this rating up a star because look, I bought this movie from Dollar Tree, and I'm very entertained. I will probably go back and grab a few more copies for stocking stuffers lol.

Plot summary
When Breen Nash accidentally kills his only client and meal ticket, he turns to an ancient herbal extract with the hope that it will resurrect both his client and his career, but soon learns this elixir brings out the worst in those who imbibe, turning them into bloodthirsty, shape-shifting beasts and leaving Breen no recourse but to stop the creatures himself before his own inner beast consumes him.

Funny and Creepy
It's rare that I see a movie that can make me laugh and creep me out at the same time. Although I enjoy any movie that Douglas Bennett plays in.
People in Hollywood are beasts
Washed-up Hollywood producer Breen Nash (nicely played by C. Thomas Howell) accidentally kills arrogant bad boy star Huckle Saxon (a robust and very amusing performance by James Duval),so Breen turns to an ancient herbal elixir in an ill-advised attempt to rectify the situation. However, said herbal elixir causes anyone who uses it to transform into savage shape-shifting beasts.
Director/writers Chris W. Freeman and Spain Willingham relate the enjoyably goofy story at a quick pace, maintain an engaging tongue-in-cheek tone throughout, poke jolly fun at fake'n'smarmy Hollywood types, and deliver some cool bits of bloody gore. Moreover, it's acted with zest by an enthusiastic cast: Carrie Finn as eager assistant Muffy Myers, Teddt Margas as vengeful journalist Finnegan Mutto, Robert Costanzo as scruffy private eye Chrome Mangle, Leslie Easterbrook as ace make-up gal Zelda Zine, Daz Crawford as slimy executive Scram Puttoff, Ray Wise as helpful recluse Trammel Steadfast, and James Hong as no-nonsense money man Pish Rudabaker. A total hoot.
