This film seems to be a rip-off of the British movie THE HIKE, which came out a year earlier and has pretty much exactly the same storyline (although the unfolding action is different, obviously). This is slim, independent film-making with a small cast and smaller budget. Three girls decide to go out into the wilderness for a camping trip, only to meet a trio of ex-soldiers, and things unfold from there.

I disliked this film from the opening scenes, and that's down to the script. The dialogue given to the main characters is puerile and you end up hating them from the outset. What's with that one girl pretending she had cancer in order to emotionally blackmail the others? It's pretty sick and you lose all respect for that character despite the best efforts of the actress playing her.

The story that unfolds is very predictable, with tons of these "survival horror" type films having been made in recent years. You don't care about the predicament of the leads and everything that happens feels stale and too well telegraphed in advance. I burst out laughing at the gratuitous nude scene and at the artifice of the ending where you can easily guess what happens. Non-existent acting, a horrid script, and unlikeable characters sink this from the outset.

Sarah (Kate Bosworth) has an idea to spend time with her girlfriends camping on a remote island. Abby (Katie Aselton) and Louise (Lake Bell) have old boyfriend issues they need to still come to terms with. While on the island they bump into some hunters/poachers, three guys recently dishonorably discharged from the military. They hit it off fine, especially Abby and Henry (Will Bouvier) until tragedy strikes and the film takes on Rambettes vs seasoned killers with guns.

I thought I would never get tired on these type of films, but I believe I have reached my saturation limit. The film is typical of the genre except the hunters lacked the personality to make this short film entertaining. Alex (Anslem Richardson) was a confusing character, poorly scripted. The theme is that we all do things that apologies don't mend, and centers around Abby who was wronged. Later Abbey tries to change how people feel through an apology. Might make for a rental if you like this type of film. Not the best of its kind.

The basic story was a good idea. However despite Bosworth and Bell being seasoned actors the screen play was rubbish with directing not great and the plot all over the place. We'd love to think that 3 smart women could outwit 3 heavily armed and seasoned veterans only recently back from Afghanistan, but they didn't outwit them they overpowered them which is ridiculous in anyone's world. And why despite having onset of hypothermia did they run through the forest, dig up an old box and make weapons completely naked? Ridiculous film, I only gave it a 3 because Bosworth and Bell had some decent acting moments.
