Filling the cruel landscape that is chained to their black and white texture, with their human-like posture, those creatures are standing. The environment flows with the gloomy metaphysical sounds. The transcending experience that one is not sure of where to keep , waits.

Plot summary
Shot on black-and-white Super 8 film, 'End of Summer' is a hypnotic, slow-burning journey through the austere landscapes of the island of South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. Filmed as a series of mostly-static tableaux over a period of 20 days during the waning days of the Antarctic Summer, the film is a startling look at life at the edge of the world.

A deeply human portrait
Great for napping
I have a soft spot for Icelandic composers. Jóhann Jóhannsson really made something special here. I never thought I would see penguins in Super 8 quality combined with music like this. But it popped up on Mubi and I figured "I enjoyed the cinematography of The Lighthouse, this looks nice too". Though it only has the sea and B&W film in common, I really enjoyed this. It's atmospheric and calming. I watched this in bed one afternoon, I fell asleep about 7 minutes in. Had a great nap. Woke up after 20min and rewound to the 7 minute mark and enjoyed the rest of the film. Would recommend for a peaceful afternoon.
With pro' recorded location sound, a considered minimalist score & fine audio mixing, I'm puzzled at
I have no idea how Jóhannsson came up with the idea of destructed penguin opera. It sounds dreadfully beautiful. It is probably not Jóhannsson's intention to deliver such sentiment.... but the penguins are too cute Insert Heartbreaking Emoji
