Of course there is more to it than just this being a "copy" of Sleepy Hollow (it isn't, and I generally have to rewatch that movie asap anyway)! But it has things that may feel like there are quite the few comparisons one can take. There are also references to many other Science Fiction movies and books.
Having said that, the movie does not shy away from being violent and sexy (though some may beg to differ on the latter). The acting is quite fine and the story is more than intriguing. The sound design and the cinematography more than live up to what the movie sets out to do - and anyone watching will not be dissapointed. The first of a trilogy - you kind of can feel it. And it is tough to say how you'll like it if you only watch one of those (this for example) ... you may feel it deserves more or less rating wise ...
Plot summary
The year 1829. Nikolay Gogol, a young Third Section clerk, is desperate: his own books seem shallow and mediocre, so he keeps buying entire print runs just to burn them all. He is suffering from violent epileptic seizures and struggles to keep on working. Investigator Yakov Guro accidentally witnesses one such fit and realizes that Gogol's visions contain clues that could help solve actual crimes. Together, Gogol and Guro take on a particularly weird and baffling case that brings them to a small village of Dikanka, where everyone has a huge secret to hide.

Something really cool
I watched this film at home, when TV3 was showing it during these winter holidays. And I REALLY liked it very much. It's not a usual film. It's a TV series shown in cinemas and, to be honest, that's a great idea. Sitting among all the people who came there to watch it too helps to create a unique atmosphere. All the actors are perfect for the roles, I liked Oleg Menshikov most of all))) I advice you to watch it))
