Going the Distance is a very enjoyable honest romantic comedy starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long

Just watched this romantic comedy starring sometime off-screen couple Drew Barrymore and Justin Long. She's an aspiring reporter and he's a record company executive who's forced to guide crappy musical acts for his label. They're forced into a long distance relationship due to unforeseen circumstances. That's all I'll say of the story and just say that this was quite both a ribaldry hilarious and honestly touching movie that seem to ring true most of the time. With fine supporting turns from Jim Gaffigan, Jason Sudeikis, and Christina Applegate, not to mention the leads, I highly recommend Going the Distance. P.S. Nice use of some classic '80s songs like Berlin's "Take My Breath Away" or Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes' "I've Had the Time of My Life".

Transcontinental Courtship, Will Love Find A Way?

Going The Distance is exactly what Drew Barrymore and Justin Long are doing to maintain their relationship even if the distance is across the continental USA. Good thing someone wasn't living in Alaska or Hawaii.

But New York to San Francisco is bad enough for these two thirty somethings. Long works for a record company, they still call them that though vinyl is passé, and Barrymore is an intern at the New York Sentinal Newspaper. She's from San Francisco and will have to return there if she can't land a reporting job in her field. They both want to be near each other because they're worried love won't last.

Not that either of them is getting much in the way of advice, Drew from her sister and brother-in-law, Christina Applegate and Jim Gaffigan and Long from his brain dead friends Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis.

Going The Distance is your typical comedy of the new century, helped along in large part by the charm of its leads. Especially Justin Long who has this goofball type personality that's rather endearing in the films I've seen him in. It's not exactly sophisticated stuff, but Going The Distance did well in both the red and blue state audiences and deservedly so.

Some foul mouth sarcastic fun

Erin (Drew Barrymore) is finishing her internship in New York and returning home to San Francisco. Garrett (Justin Long) gets dumped by his girlfriend. They start up a fling but end up trying to keep the long distant relationship alive.

There is some foul mouth rude sarcastic fun to be had here. When you get Charlie Day, you can't expect anything less. At least, I hope we don't get anything less.

We catch Justin Long and Drew Barrymore while they're still a couple. Their breakup probably didn't help this movie any. They have good chemistry together. However it doesn't work on the phone. It breaks up the flow of the rom-com. I know it's the gimmick that drives the movie. It's just not a very cinematic gimmick.
