This was another Horror Channel late night feature. Horror Channel can be a bit hit and miss, but occasionally you get a few nice, low budget British horror ('Stalled' is a good example of a super low budget Brit horror that they've shown and was a pleasant surprise).
I started out quite happy, as it had legendary UK Scream Queen Emily Booth in the opening scenes. Sadly, this was just a brief cameo.
It's your standard issue cannibal-hillbilly-gang-hunts-kills-and eats-dumb-kids gorefest, just set in Yorkshire rather than the woods of West Virginia, and it's crap.
If you've ever seen League of Gentlemen, you'll immediately see this is a rip off of the villagers of Royston Vasey (they even use the 'you can never leave' line and blatant use of Papa Lazarou's black face and outfit).
They used a fair bit of expensive CGI together with old school effects and the deaths by horse and muck spreader were quite creative, but the kids and social workers in peril were irritating and so you don't really care if they live or die. If you want a semi decent British horror about young offenders in peril, go watch 'Wilderness' instead. It's not perfect, but it's 'Casablanca' compared to this.
You might dig it if you're absolutely wasted on home brewed vodka, just make sure it's not just watered down pee.
Even 'Wrong Turn 6' was better than this, and that was abysmal.

Plot summary
This film is about a group of four teen offenders who go to the country for the weekend with two other youth workers. They end up at an old country house near the town of Mortlake in Yorkshire. After they clean up the house so they can stay there they all head in to the village for some well earned drinks only to run in to the local "town folk". The next day they go to a place that has old train carriages to collect some scrap metal when they again run in to the locals, but this time it ends up with one of the youth workers being hurt badly. They go in to the village for help but it turns out to be the worst thing they could have done. The locals aren't as friendly and welcoming as they thought.

This is the most idiotic thing I've ever seen. I am now dumber for having watched it.
Splatter comedy
INBRED is one in a sub-genre of recent British splatter movies that celebrate their low budgets by throwing copious comedy gore into the mix. These films are often poorly plotted and rather predictable, but get by with sheer gusto and often the presence of familiar faces in the cast. If you like this, then be sure to check out others like DOGHOUSE or THE COTTAGE.
INBRED is a film that celebrates Yorkshire culture with a storyline that has unfortunately been done to death a million times (see WILDERNESS and the like). A group of problem students head into the Yorkshire Dales for a break and before long they run into suspicious locales modelled on the ones from An American Werewolf in London. Later the film turns into a gory action movie as members of the group struggle to escape from various inbred hillbillies. I hated some parts (the drawn-out arena deaths and the general crudity) but in other areas the suspense is well handled and the effects are good.
This film's directed by gore king Alex Chandon, who brings little wit or insight to the production, but if you like gore then it's not so bad. Jo Hartley is best known for playing Shaun's mum in THIS IS ENGLAND and bags the main role of the social worker here. Some of the kids are way too annoying and hateful, but others like Nadine Mulkerrin's Sam are okay. There are cameos from BEFORE DAWN's Dominic Brunt, who seems to be something of a horror fan, and Thalidomide actor Mat Fraser.
COMPLETELY OFF THE MAP
Katie (Jo Hartley) and Jeff (James Doherty) are two social workers who take four troubled teens to a remote cottage in a remote village for...I am not sure what, but they are there. The townsfolk all seem to have the same bad teeth and large ears. After a run in, our heroes become the main attraction in a theater one might see in "Blood Sucking Freaks" complete with a bare bottomed organ player right out of Monty Python.
The theater aspect, which was by far the highlight of the film, needed a third act. There was significant internal conflict within the teen group which served more as a distraction. Instead they should have used this as an opportunity to develop dark humor. The film is also sold as a comedy, but the humor was more in their outfits. The production certainly has the potential to achieve cult status as it has all the qualifications, but for me it fell short. Personally I prefer "House of a 1,000 Corpses" or "10,000 Maniacs" or "Blood Sucking Freaks" for this type of cult genre.
Recommend as a strong cult rental.
