Finish him/it

This is the best one yet - of the game to movie adaptations that is. Though in a couple of days that might look different. Actually I really hope and am looking forward to the next Mortal Kombat, which is due soon. Of course this one isn't real actors, real anything but an animated tour de force.

The r-rating from the other movies I saw have nothing on the rating on this! If you had issues that the movies did not depict the violence on a level that the games do ... well look no further! This goes not just all the way, but beyond that! I am used to violence in movies and I'd say I can take it quite well ... but even I had to take a step back at certain moments. Now don't get it wrong, I'm not offended or I am not saying it was too much for me ... but just because I have a bigger thresshold ... well I am just warning everyone or make them aware of this.

If the violence doesn't get you, I reckon some may get annoyed by Joel McHale ... I thought he was very fitting, but I could totally understand if some see it differently. His character is supposed to be annoying .. the fourth wall breaking ... well that's an added "bonus". This certainly is not a fatality, if you can stomache it.

Definitely worth a watch...

Right, well when I sat down to watch the 2020 animated movie "Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpions Revenge" I must admit that I had absolutely no expectations to this feature. Why? Well, let's just be blunt here, it is "Mortal Kombat" after all.

But still, I sat down to watch it and I must admit that I was blown backwards by the sheer amount of action and mayhem that there was to be seen throughout the course of this animated movie. It was glorious, and it most definitely was in the spirit of the "Mortal Kombat" fighting games. So if you enjoy that, you'll enjoy this as well.

The story was adequate, again, take into consideration that this is "Mortal Kombat", so chances are slim to none that your intellect with be challenged here. But the storyline proved to be entertaining enough for what it was; senseless action and fighting, laced with an ounce of coherent storyline.

You get to see a lot of characters that made appearances through the numerous "Mortal Kombat" games, though not everyone gets a chance to fight in the animated movie.

The voice acting in this animated movie was good. However, I wasn't much fan of the particular drawing style that they opted to use here. It just felt too rigid and hard-edged for my liking.

But truth be told, I was definitely entertained by this. And as such, I am rating "Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpions Revenge" a seven out of ten stars. It caught the essence of the "Mortal Kombat" game and it revolved around Scorpion, whom happens to be my all-time favorite character in the game series.

Better than expected, but the same old storyline

There is a fine line between respecting the intellectual property and expanding it. Do too little of the latter and you get an army of fans complaining you've destroyed their childhood. But do too much of the former and you get something that lacks any mystery. Unfortunately this is the case of Scorpion's Revenge. Nice animation, decent voice acting and a lot of violence. But in the end it's the same old story of Scorpion getting his family killed and seeking revenge against the same people. The characters are a subset of those in Mortal Kombat II plus Quan-Chi, with cameos for some of them, like short Kitana and Jax sequences, a Motaro for a few seconds, no other ninjas or robots except Scorpion and Sub-Zero (and too little of that one),no Kung Lao and no Jade or Mileena. It promises a sequel where we can see more of Shao-Khan, who only appears at the end, Thanos style.

That being said, the film was solid from start to end, with entertaining fight scenes. I dare say, though, that the beginning of the film was way better than the rest. If they would have continued in the same style, first of all it would have been a Japanese anime, second of all it would have been awesome!

Bottom line: only in this crazy world you can see a WB logo where Daffy Duck is being grabbed by Scorpion's "Get over here!". What I want is an R rated MK movie with Mileena as the antihero. Make it happen , WB!
