Bad, But Not That Bad

The movie wasn't particularly good and a little corny with the talking heads.

However, people complaining about lack of buildup, while that's true, these types of guys are telling you by the second date how much they are in love you and you're soulmates. There's actually a name forfor that - love bombing. Cults do it to. As soon as they have you in their clutches, the control and violence escalates.

The ending makes no sense

David Barragan is a new cop in a small town. His father is respected by his boss Chief Stephen Dodd and he is beyond criticism. He starts dating local girl Julie Dillon. He becomes obsessive and controlling. He starts stalking her after their break up and then she goes missing. Sgt. John Miller is brought in to investigate but Dodd disbelieves the case.

This is basically a better Lifetime movie until the ending. I have no problems with that type of woman-in-danger movie. It's fine for the most part. It's not the most surprising or new. Problems mount in the third act when people start doing things that don't make sense. First, the mother comes charging into the police station screaming that Julie is still alive. She should be calling Miller instead of proclaiming the situation when she obviously doesn't trust the police. In fact, I thought it might be all staged for David's benefit so that Miller can follow him but that would be giving the characters too much credit. After Miller followed David, it would make sense that he targeted a new search of that area. If the local cops don't cooperate, maybe he should gather Julie's friends and family for a search. All of it can be forgiven but it is too unreal that Julie would stumble her way to David's cabin and worst of all, attack him with a rake. The last place she would go to is David's cabin. The last thing she could do is ambush David with the rake. It's a passable movie until it collapses under a series of head-scratching turns in the third act. And it's supposed to be a true story.

Based on a True story...

Julie (Amber Midthunder) is a Native American teen on her way to college. She meets David (Brett Zimmerman) the new cop in town and the two become an item. David becomes overly possessive to the point of creepy leading to Julie getting shot (opening scene spoiler).

The film felt like a bad Lifetime film with aside interviews during the film. Amber's eyes were the only reason I was able to watch it.
