This is a great comedy, I liked it - very uplifting! I think the film also gives a good insight into the contrasting perspectives of working-class and upper-class people in society; that basically every person lives in his own world, and that's its not so easy to connect with a person from another class or cultural milieu... The great actors of this film not only making this movie into a great comedy, but also into a very good social study of America; providing a vivid insight into the nuances of American life...

Great uplifting comedy!
Why Was This Remake Needed?
What is the point?
If Hollywood wants to convince us that they have run out of ideas then we get it. We have known for 20 years. Sequels, prequels, universes, franchises and lame remakes.
This was predictable.
Anna is eye candy and is slender and f-able. The girls are thin and nubile. Do we see any action? Heck, no. Being natural is verboten in Hollywood.
So tell me why should I keep watching your films?
4 stars because the chicks were not fat and tattooed.
Sinks fast
Was not sure whether to see 'Overboard'. Although there are some talented names in the cast, it didn't look or sound good at all when discussed on a late night film review programme where it was panned quite strongly, and the clip shown did nothing to make me feel better. Have not seen the original 'Overboard' in a while but remember liking it a lot, a re-watch is in order.
Giving 'Overboard' a chance when it came out some weeks ago (but it is another film where it took a while for me to get round to reviewing),there are far worse remakes out there. It is nowhere near as bad as those for 'Psycho', 'The Wicker Man' and 'Rollerball' as particularly bad examples. Also didn't think it was that bad, there are moments. Having said that, count me in as another person who didn't care for it. And it has nothing to do with that it was a remake, there are actually decent to good remakes out there, and nothing to do with gender switching, contrary to what those who liked it have said quite ignorantly.
'Overboard' is not completely bad. It doesn't look too bad visually, not amazing but it is not cheap-looking either. A few infectious moments in the soundtrack and a few amusing lines.
John Hannah and Eva Longoria, despite having little to do, give the film's best performances and do have likeability and charm.
Anna Farris however can be likeable and funny but here sleepwalks through her role that she comes across as flat. On the other side of the acting spectrum, Eugenio Derbez overdoes it badly and Swoozie Kurtz irritated me to no end. There is no chemistry whatsoever between Farris and Derbez, never believed in the romantic aspect of the film because it was so passionless and the two seemed too distant from each other.
The script feels stale and tired, with most lines not making much impact, and there is absolutely nothing new or fresh to the story to set it apart even with the gender switching (which the film focuses too heavily on),to the extent that one seriously questions why was the film made when it tries to be too faithful and loses completely the impact of what there was before. The pace is very flabby and there is nothing interesting or endearing about the characters. The direction screams of feature film inexperience.
In summary, not that bad but sinks fast and is very lacking. 4/10 Bethany Cox
