Gritty, fun indie

Wanted a short-form flick to watch and gave Sleeping Dogs Lie a shot. Directed by Konstantinos Kovas, the film delivers on its premise of a slippery accountant finding himself in a precarious situation when abducted by his wife and side-piece secretary. There's a lot of genuine intrigue as to who is screwing over who, with the antics taking an unexpected turn half-way through the film. Solid performances and a keen eye in terms of cinematography, with especially nice photography once out in the Southern Californian desert. Give it a watch!

Good cinematography

Armando gets caught cheating on his wife Eleni with Luna the secratary. Eleni kidnaps the two of them in hopes of getting the password for a secret account Armando set up under Luna's name holding money stolen from a Japanese mob client. The premise of this movie is decent, however certain scenes drag on and some of the twists don't make sense. I did like the cinematography and the three lead actors were decent.

A trio of snakes in the desert

Irate housewife Eleni (a strong and fiery performance by Markella Giannatou) abducts both her no-count unfaithful husband Armando (well played to the wormy conniving hilt by Miguel Angel Caballero) and his foxy secretary Luna (a nicely tart portrayal by Joanna Zanella). The trio all hole up at a remote cabin in the desert.

Director Kostantinos Kovas keeps the tight and involving story moving along at a snappy pace, maintains a tough gritty pace throughout, and builds a good deal of tension. Moreover, it's a lot of twisted fun to watch these greedy, sneaky, and deceitful people turn on and manipulate each other in an assortment of terrible ways. The three leads all do sterling work in their juicy roles. Garret Sato also makes a potent impression as the ruthless Mr. Nakamura. The surprise bummer ending is a real corker. Worth a watch.
