Plot summary
High in the hills among the last remnants of Hollywood's golden age, 24-year-old Tod and his 22-year-old sister Lani live a breezy, charmed life in the sprawling mansion of their grandmother Judy, a former movie star now relegated to hosting a dying home-shopping show. Tod's carefree, narcissistic existence takes a dark turn when he accidentally (perhaps) shoots Judy, killing her instantly. Desperate to maintain his decadent lifestyle, Tod hatches a diabolical plan to cover up his grandma's death, keep her show rolling, and keep the money flowing. After seducing Judy's partner Barb, Tod convinces her to allow Lani to host the show in Judy's "absence." The ploy works and the ratings go up. Next, Tod turns his attention to the mansion's 25-year-old handyman Jacob, who also happens to be involved with Lani. Jacob is the one person that can help Tod put the finishing touches on his evil opus. Surviving a long string of close shaves, Tod manages to outwit everyone, even the LAPD. With Lani finally back in his fold and happy in their conspiracy, we follow them as they ride into the California sunset.

Woah!
Kept me Captivated
I really enjoyed watching this. It reminded me a bit of a movie called Under the Silver Lake - in terms of it's style and "What the friggin heck am I watching here?" kind of state of mind I had.
I read an interview where they said they shot the whole thing in 14 days. Wow. There would be many movies with far larger budgets that are way inferior to this.
I liked the camera angles and the lighting (lots of red light, and quite a lot of dark old fashioned rooms).
I was pretty glued to the screen actually, wondering where it was all going to end up. I hated the main character, I wanted to strangle him - which just shows what a great job he did.
DARKNESS LIES IN THE HEART OF HOLLYWOOD
I was in a mood to watch a trifle about the pretty blond people of Hollywood being cruel... and this movie filled the bill. Sure, there were some logic holes (how many days until a body goes ripe?) but I was willing to overlook them because it was so damn pretty to watch. And yes Charlotte, there is a dark soul behind the gates of Olympus and the blood looks just as black under the moonlight.
If you liked The Day of the Locust and Sunset Blvd., consider this their B-list progeny.
