Jesus is the same character from "The Big Lebowski." Both were played by John Turturro. He bowls once in the film and I really expected more from the title. He leaves prison and goes on with his life as a bisexual Mexican (?) with a passion for bowling, threesomes, and vintage cars. The plot doesn't go anywhere and it is better to compartmentalize the scenes. I found the scene of the tire rolling out of the tunnel to be best in the film. I liked how that was set up and directed. The rest of the film needed direction. Susan Sarandon with a minor role.

I watched this the other day ... and while I was sure I had never seen this movie, I had a strong Deja Vu feeling throughout ... it was like I had seen many of the scenes before. Not sort of - because if you've seen as many movies as I have, you are very likely to feel some familiarity for most movies you are going to watch ... but this was so much more ... more than this.

And lo and behold: this is a not just a spin off to Big Lebowski, it is also a Remake of a French movie from the 70s (starring Gerard Depardieu) ... I guess a nod to that is the casting of the woman movie fans know as Amelie ... and if you are not a prude, you at least will not mind seeing her topless and naked from time to time - I even though of calling this Amelie goes wild.

Now I don't know if this deserves a worst of 2020 movie ... there weren't that many movies in that year - pandemic and all. But I understand the sentiment - since it was one of the most anticipated and did not deliver I reckon expectations Big Lebowski fans had. And the original other movie this is based on (story wise),is also far better! Still the casting here is quite something ... even when the movie seems to be stuck many times ... So if you can watch the French Original, even if it is way longer than this one ...

You may recall that John Turturro appeared in "The Big Lebowski" as a Puerto Rican sex offender who liked to bowl. Well, that character now has his own movie. "The Jesus Rolls" depicts Jesus Quintana as a devil-may-care type. It's not a great movie, but still funny, with appearances by a number of people.
