TRESPASS AGAINST US is a typical kind of slice-of-life story following the misadventures of a gypsy family who find themselves constantly in opposition to the local police force. It's basically a vehicle for the assembled stars to show off their various levels of magnetism, and in this respect it works. Michael Fassbender gives a likeable turn as the bad boy hero, well supported by Brendan Gleeson (less sweary and more thoughtful than usual),a typically kooky Sean Harris, and ROME's Lyndsey Marshal as his put-upon wife. The lack of a proper storyline hurts it somewhat, as it's very episodic in nature, just sort of bubbling along until very much a non-ending.

Plot summary
Living as pariahs on the outskirts of Gloucestershire, three generations of Cutlers, the infamous family of professional criminals, spend their time planning the next heist and mocking the police. But, more and more, Chad, the eldest son who is under the wing of Colby, the family's patriarch and the one who pulls all the strings, finds himself wavering from his desire to live a quiet life with his wife and son away from crime, and his fearful respect to his father. Then Colby devises a plan, targeting a private art collection, and a lifetime of bad decisions, senseless violence, and crime will begin to collapse, underlining the fact that Chad, his father's worthy son and heir, needs to make up his mind. Will Chad summon up the courage to stand up for himself and spread his wings, or will he break up the family? After all, he's only got one.

Good performances, that's about it
The film is decent, Fassbender very impressive
"Trespass Against Us" is a British 100-minute movie from last year (2016) and most likely the most known work by now for director Adam Smith and writer Alastair Siddons. The two big names here are Fassbender and Gleeson, but huge film fans will maybe recognize other faces like Kinnear. I am quite a Gleeson fun, but while he was good too, not even I can deny that everything and everybody in this film is inferior to Fassbender. With his performance here, he turned a mediocre story into something pretty good in my opinion. Luckily for him the character also offers really a lot, be it his violent, almost sadistic side, the character's struggle between hating and loving his dad or the connection he has with his wife and children, it is all very baity material. I expected some tragedy towards the end and while it is certainly not an entirely happy ending, it almost looks like one, so I was wrong. As for Gleeson, his character is interesting as well, he may seem like somebody easy to hate but we find out during the film that he may be a victim of his own upbringing and lets keep in mind that he apparently raised his kids on his own and managed to keep the family together somehow, even if his measures are undoubtedly something (you don't want) to get used to. As a whole, this is neither a horrible nor a great film, but Fassbender makes it very much worth watching. This is a kind of film that won't get recognized by the big awards bodies I am sure, but that is quite a shame as MF gave one of the finest performances I have seen in a long time. The more I see from him, the more of a fan I become. Go watch this movie here that luckily does not have a great title to get people interested, even if the reference to the quote from Gleeson's character's is a fitting one. I give "Trespass Against Us" a thumbs-up.
Raw and dirty
This is a really tough movie to watch. It's not glitter it's not really made to be epic or anything else. It's a movie that stays low, that deals with a lot of strains, especially concerning family issues. But not just one dimensional ones, rather multiple ones. Blood related family, chosen family and so on.
Michael Fassbender and Gleeson are on a rampage acting wise. They really are amazing in this. The story is engaging enough and there is enough to enjoy. But you have to remember this is pretty gloomy. And the characters are not really people you'd necessarily root for in real life. But it's just that some people have to deal with different circumstances ... Not all the characters have to be likable - so just enjoy
