Pretentious band bio

Could have been a 30 minute DVD bonus on their new album, there is nothing objective about this "bio" and the band comes off as very pretentious. I am a fan of metal bands and Aussie bands but not particularly this band, and this did nothing to sway me.

From Byron Bay to Wacken

Parkway Drive have risen from humble beginnings in the NSW town of Byron Bay to become arguably Australia's biggest metal band.

This documentary chronicles their "Reverence" album tour towards the highest of highs: headlining the legendary Wacken festival in 2019.

A word of warning: "Viva the Underdogs" (named after the lyrics from their 2012 song "Wild Eyes") isn't for Parkway novices. While there's a little bit of backstory, this documentary focuses on the road to Wacken. There's other Parkway docos to fill in the gaps for new fans.

Also, Parkway fans hoping for a greatest hits catalogue here will be disappointed, as the majority of live songs are from their most recent albums.

This documentary shows how far Parkway have come, with their stage shows becoming more and more elaborate, with a lot of pyrotechnics.

Because of this, the Parkway boys are still anxious about losing money and the various things that can go wrong with the elaborate set up.

While there's a lot of 'what could go wrong now' drama, it's all worth it for the final 20 minutes at Wacken, which is spectacular: it's a shame the whole set wasn't released as a companion piece, as Parkway fans would've eaten it up.
